The self driven man lives by a double edged sword. His drive to succeed and the ability to accomplish his feat can lead him onto a never ending journey of what’s next. His thoughts, always looking forward to something else, prevent him from ever feeling the satisfaction of contentment with his current lot in life.
While this drive to succeed can have many beneficial aspects for this man’s life, it can also cause him to feel he isn’t good enough. He has a keen awareness for those around him that have something he doesn’t yet possess. I say yet, because this drive can consume the man to gain what is lacking in his life.
Let it be clear, a self driven man is not inherently greedy. Greed is the attitude of wanting more than others while the drive to succeed is the desire to be better than he used to be. This desire is a burning fire within his soul that cannot be quenched. Mediocrity is the enemy of the self driven man. He lives his days fighting it with every breath and action he takes.
It is not good enough to “Eat, Drink, & Be Merry” but rather he lives his life by this motto: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might for there is no work in the grave, whither thou goest”
